Board of Trustees

As an overseeing body, The Board of Trustees is the custodian of Satya Sanatan Dharma Cultural Sabha of Canada [Devi Mandir]. It is responsible for the following:

  • Up-holding the By-laws of the organization
  • Preserving the core religious, social and cultural values of the organization
  • Maintaining an environment of openness, transparency and non discriminatory practices,
  • Ensuring fiscal responsibility
  • Conducting open and transparent elections
  • Resolving disputes and mediating conflicts
  • Collaborating with the Board of Directors to ensure stability,
  • Continuity, fair practices and good governance
  • Ensuring that the rights of its members and devotees are respected, valued and appreciated


    • Bal Rampersad

A retired public and private school educator – teacher, consultant, program coordinator and principal –  with undergraduate degrees from Concordia, University of Toronto and a graduate degree in education from McGill University. He served on several provincial, regional and local boards & committees with the Quebec Ministry of Education, McGill University and the Regional School Board of Laval, Quebec where he worked for more than 25 years as an education consultant and program coordinator. Bal and his wife, Sattie, are life time members of the Devi Mandir.

Basil Punit

A Canadian Chartered Accountant [CA] and a US certified Public Accountant [CPA] with over 30 years of experience in both public accounting and industry in Canada and United States with specialization in U.S  and International tax . He worked for Price Waterhouse Coopers LLP and Magna International and is a frequent speaker at tax seminars and conferences. He is the past president of the Guyana-Canada Chamber of Commerce in Toronto and was profiled in the Globe and Mail for his community work in Canada, Guyana and the Caribbean. He is associated with the Devi Mandir for about 20 years and served the temple in many capacities including V.P Finance, Membership and Director. He was instrumental in drafting the first and new By-Laws of the organization. He is currently a director on the Board of Directors of the Mandir. He and his wife, Anna, are life time members of the Devi Mandir.

Jairam Binda

A businessman with extensive experience in accounting and governance for not-for-profit organizations including Easter Seals and the March of Dimes. He served as the controller for Easter Seals for over ten years. He is associated with the temple from its very inception serving as Controller, Secretary and Director. Jai helped to draft the first Constitution of the Organization. Jai and his wife, Mona, are life time members of Devi Mandir and are ardent supporters of the organization.


Ramesh Sankar

A retired Accountant with over 30 years Accounting and Finance experience with one of the world’s largest financial institution. He held Progressive Managerial/ Senior Managerial positions specializing in Treasury Trading and International Operations. He held many executive positions in multiple charitable and volunteer organizations including Treasurer of the Devi Mandir. He served as the Mandir’s first Accountant. He was involved in many fund raising events that helped to fund the building of the Devi Mandir. Ramesh  currently  volunteers at the Mandir; both he and his wife are long time devotees of the Devi Mandir.


Vitra [Tony]Chankar

A graduate of Seneca College and University of Toronto, Tony specialized in Marketing and Electronic Pre-press. He is an astute business man and operates a successful printing business since 1991. His second company, TicketGateway Inc., has subsidiaries in 17 countries with offices in Canada, US, India and Trinidad. His strong marketing, design and IT background have given him the skill-set, experience and vision to remain successful in today’s highly competitive marketplace. He has been providing service to the mandir for the past 15 years – printing, web re-design and live streaming of Sunday morning services. He is a community worker, volunteer and exhibits a high degree of integrity and social responsibility. Tony and his wife, Ena, are life time members of Devi Mandir, he also have two wonderful kids Nishani and Naveen.
